National Student Volunteer Award; recognising excellence in Student Volunteering

Celebrating the positive impact you’ve had on the causes you care about

Introduction:
Following on from the extremely successful Gold Awards run by Volunteering England, members of Student Volunteering Network championed the re-introduction of a national student volunteering award scheme.

This information will guide you through the process of the National Volunteer Awards which are a mark of excellence in student volunteering. In particular they reward Leadership, Innovation, Dedication and Impact, allowing you to honour your most deserving volunteers with a prestigious, nationally recognised award.

Who is eligible for an award?
It is up to your individual institutions to chose the recipients of the awards; those who you feel excel in one or all four of the categories outlined below. The criteria is broad enabling you to adapt it to your local requirements, while providing national consistency and continuity at the same time.

Leadership: Students who excel in leadership may have run their own volunteering project or taken a lead on a committee or the organisation and delivery of other volunteering events. These students will have been responsible for guiding other students, as well as being a team player and volunteering themselves..

Innovation: Students who have challenged the status quo in order to make a positive difference in the community. These students will have taken the initiative to affect change for the causes they care about.

Dedication: This is an opportunity to reward the most committed and hard working of volunteers who may not be at the forefront of running projects but can be relied on
continually. Being an inspiration to other volunteers, these students show loyalty and  passion towards their volunteering.

Impact: Students who have had a proven impact through volunteering and social action: affecting real change for the people and causes they serve. These students will have shown dedication to making things happen; not just in the short term, but with a sustainable vision for the future.

When is the best time to give the awards?
It is completely up to you when you give the awards, but it is recommended to tie it in to your own annual awards ceremony, if you have one.

How can my institution apply for the awards?
Student volunteering Network will administer the awards. Members may apply for the awards throughout the year but may only be awarded a maximum 5 per year.
