The second annual WiSCV event is the summer AGM and workers gathering, on the 14th of June 2012. This will be an opportunity to network within your region and workers across the UK, as well as meet some inspirational speakers. Fiona from UCL is now the WiSCV vice-chair and she will be organising the event and sending more information about it in the new year. For now, save the date, or get in touch with Fiona if you would like to offer any suggestions about the gathering.

Join us in supporting and recognising the contribution of student volunteers across the country

Now in its tenth year, Volunteering England’s Student Volunteering Week, sponsored by Santander, brings organisations from all sectors together to celebrate volunteering by students in Further and Higher Education.

Student Volunteering Week 2011 provides a platform for student volunteers to connect with their community and actively engage at a local level. In addition, 2011 marks the European Year of Volunteering, the tenth anniversary of the International Year of Volunteers (IYV+10) and the penultimate year before the 2012 Games, in which volunteers will play a vital role. Student Volunteering Week and these other initiatives provide an ideal opportunity to highlight the wider work that student volunteers do to inspire futures and connect communities.

You can support Student Volunteering Week in a number of ways:
  • Become an official Ambassador. Promote Student Volunteering Week 2011 within your organisation and networks and act as a key advocate for the campaign
  • Support the campaign. Join our other Student Volunteering Week advocates by adding a quote and your logo to the official website
  • Utilise resources. Visit the website to access toolkits, media resources, case studies, logos and more
  • Celebrate students. Nominate a student for the Matt Spencer Award and request Gold Award certificates to present to your outstanding student volunteers
  • Events. Attend the Student Volunteering Week launch event, run your own event or link up with a college, students’ union or university event.  This year’s launch event will be held on the 14th of February in central London. The theme for the event is “International, National and Local Volunteering: what type of volunteering is most beneficial for students and the community?.”
For full details of how to get involved, visit our website www.volunteering.org.uk/svw2011 or contact Robert Parker, Higher Education Senior Officer on 020 7520 8934 or Robert.Parker@volunteering.org.uk.  Also follow us on twitter at www.twitter.com/SVW2011.

Student Volunteering Week 2011 is an initiative of Volunteering England, sponsored by Santander.
